An amazing agenda called “AGENDA PLAY GHANA” has been set for December and beyond with the goal of promoting Ghanaian music and selling the Ghanaian sound to the diaspora.
Ghanaian music entrepreneur, culture vulture, and streetwear expert Nana Kwame Appiasei, better known by many as Smallgod, is in charge of this fantastic “AGENDA PLAY GHANA.”
Smallgod held a minister’s press briefing with a few musicians to promote this agenda and ensure that it is carried out effectively.
The intention was to raise awareness of the Play Ghana program, which aims to support local music over the Christmas season and result in laws allowing the broadcasting of local content.
Deputy Minister of Information Fatimadu Abubakar and the Director of the Creative Arts Agency spoke during the event.
A few words were exchanged with the media by the musicians in attendance. Big names in the industry including Samini, DJ Mensah, Black Sherif, and Reggie Rockstone spoke up.
One that gained attention across multiple channels was the speech delivered by Black Sherif, the recipient of a BET Award.
Some online users—particularly those from Nigeria—believe that Black Sherif should make another appearance after his comments against Ghana banning foreign music.
On Twitter (X) , some ardent BLACKO fans from Nigeria vented their resentment and even made threats to remove his songs.
The young artist responded to this by releasing a message on Twitter (X) that explains the circumstances.
He says there isn’t a single word in his speech advocating for foreign music to be prohibited here in Ghana. The fact that he collaborates with international producers and artists makes it impossible for him to support this objective, he said in his final statement.
“I don’t know where in my speech that says ban foreign music. How crazy can you spin a message that says love your culture and try play local music to your visitors if you wanna see your country creatives break boundaries. How do I want foreign music ban in my country while I work with foreign producers and Artistes? But agenda set ah lie? Good luck to everybody.” – his words on Twitter (X)
