South African singer-songwriter and winner of a Grammy Award. Johannesburg native Tyla Laura Seethal, better known by her stage name Tyla, gave an amazing interview to ESSENCE following the acceptance of her first-ever Grammy Award.
South Africa won huge at 2024 Grammy Awards as their native Tyla picked up the ‘Best African Music Performance’ with her global monster hit record “WATER” at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards.
Tyla rose to international fame with the release of her 2023 single “Water“, which entered the top ten in sixteen countries including the United Kingdom and United States. “Water” was the first song by a South African soloist to enter the US Billboard Hot 100 in 55 years.
Tyla claimed in an Essence post-release interview that she had practically dreamed about her worldwide hit song “WATER” before it was even released. She claimed to have seen in a vision that the record numbers on streaming platforms were rapidly rising.
